Hello! If you follow me on Instagram, you might have already seen that I recently threw a Robot-themed birthday party for my son, I can’t believe he’s 6 now. My daughter turns 10 next year as well, it’s gone so fast. Anyway, back to the party, I did originally have a look around for robot party decorations etc, but it doesn’t appear to be a popular theme and I can never pass up a creative project. To be honest I was just relieved that my son had chosen a different theme as his previous 5 birthdays were all trains and it was a nice change, so let’s get to it!
Ok so I didn’t design any invitations for his party as we were only inviting family, I had a small budget and the party was at home so they seemed unnecessary but the robot I designed for his birthday could definitely be used as an invitation and is something I am going to look into in the future on my store. I also didn’t make any party bags, mostly to reduce cost as I was already making cupcakes that kids and adults could take home. I bought a bunch of party bag favours anyway to use as prizes for the party games and I figured that was enough.
LET'S PLAN A KIDS ROBOT BIRTHDAY PARTY!

Here is a list of the things I made:
- Robot Bunting
- Paper Robots
- Paper Cogs
- Pin the Control Panel Robot Game
- Robot Cupcake Toppers
- Robot Colouring Pages
Here is a list of the things I bought:
These were all super cheap and from Amazon, I 100% recommend the banner I was so surprised at how big it was and that it was fabric and not plastic too so could easily be passed on and reused. You could also use it outside if you wanted to as it was waterproof.

PARTY DECORATIONS
I originally planned to design a few different robots but I just didn’t have time so I went with the same robot in 4 different colours instead. I printed and cut out 3 copies of each robot and then turned them into bunting with some garden twine I had in the garage. I also printed some larger ones and then had a go at using the new A3 print and cut feature, I don’t have one of the really big cricut mats so I taped two of mine together. It worked much better than I thought it was going to but the A3 sized robot did take all the blue ink I had left so I only managed to make one of those. I’ve been told I’m not allowed to throw any of the robots away and that they’re going in his bedroom.

PARTY GAMES

We played a bunch of traditional games, such as musical bumps, musical statues, musical cushions (I don’t have a dining table/chair, but cushions worked!), pass the parcel (It was a solid no on Lucky’s Dad’s rules) and a robot version of pin the tail on the donkey I am calling pin the control panel on the robot.
To make the robot game I greyed out the control panel on the original robot I designed and printed it out over 4 A3 Pages. I then stuck those pages on to an A1 foam board from Hobbycraft for £4.30, you can find those here. I then cut out a bunch of the control panels on my cricut, I couldn’t figure out a decent way to stick it on and on the day I just resorted to blue tack. I’m now thinking a push pin might have been better as the kids could feel the leftover blue tack and there was definitely some cheating going on!
I had also setup a little colouring space with some print outs of the robots and some stickers but it wasn’t used much, I think there was too much sugar around for sit down activities.

PARTY FOOD
I can’t take much of the credit for the food, as the budget was small and I was sorting everything on my own I asked some family to help out with the food; sandwiches, cookies, crips etc. I also bought pizza and those big garlic bread pizzas and cocktail sausages. The only food I made was the birthday cupcakes and some jelly and custard pots, which were surprisingly tasty!
The cupcake toppers were just tiny versions of my robot illustration that I laminated and then cut out on the cricut, I then used some mod podge to glue a couple of cocktail sticks on, nothing fancy. I did the same for the cogs except they were just cut out of silver card, I used a cog PNG I found on google and just loaded it into cricut design space. I also cut some larger ones and then realised I should have bought 12 x 12 inch card instead of A4 as Cricut size restrictions only apply to print and cut. I will have to remember that when it comes to organising my daughters Minecraft party in December!
I also had a serve your own tea station for the grown ups and a drinks dispenser with some blackcurrant squash for the kids. I saw this idea on Pinterest for stickers on the drinks cups saying “Robot Fuel” so I made my own and they turned out great!

Just a little note here if you like baking cupcakes, this was my first time using them for the jelly and custard pots and the cupcakes and I have to say they are amazing. They don't discolour in the oven like paper cases, they don't change shape and they don't end up with a greasy bottom, they came out looking EXACTLY as they went in. Bit more expensive but so worth it.
END RESULT
Overall the party was a success, all the kids ate too much sugar and ended up covered in buttercream and mud, what could be better? The birthday boy ended up a little bit overwhelmed after a couple of hours but he tends to prefer his own space in crowds and he was the youngest of the bunch and I'm pretty sure we only had one tantrum which was unfortunately from my daughter after she lost musical cushions. I understand, there was a Cadbury's freddo at stake and I would feel the same.
If I could only offer you one piece of advice after hosting various parties over the years it would be to keep it as simple as you can and do as much in advance as possible. I used to think I had to make EVERYTHING myself or I was a terrible parent, lazy or just an incompetent host and I thought it was pretty standard to be completely burnt out and exhausted by the time the actual event came around. I was wrong. Don't be me, plan ahead, ask for help and buy stuff if you can. You also don't need to spend a fortune, if you can't be arsed to make party bags, that we all know end up in the bin within 5 minutes of getting home, don't make the party bags, they don't need one.
Anyway, I hope this was useful, here is a list of all the freebies you are more than welcome to use at your own kids robot birthday party...
